Since our founding in 2015, Solinso has been a driving force in the evolution of solar roof tile technology. But our story already began in 2004 when founder and CEO Paul de Jong began exploring solar cell technologies. At that time, the solar industry was still in its infancy. It wasn’t until 2009, when the solar market began scaling to gigawatt levels, that the first ideas of integrating solar energy into building materials emerged.
The vision — to create high-quality, reliable solar roofing that preserves the architectural beauty of buildings—has since grown into a mission rooted in innovation and sustainability.

From idea to product concept
Maintaining a beautiful roof with solar energy must be possible
Many homeowners are interested in solar panels but are put off by the ‘unsightly’ appearance of traditional solar systems. Solinso’s founder and CEO, Paul de Jong, recognized this challenge as early as 2012. Together with industrial designer Bart Allard, they set out to solve this problem by developing the first generation of solar roof tiles. This groundbreaking innovation was the beginning of a new era in sustainable roofing—one that combines advanced solar technology with aesthetic appeal.
From Research to the Founding of Solinso BV
The first Solinso prototypes
Solinso’s journey began with independent research into materials, driven by a desire to create a more durable and aesthetically pleasing solar roofing solution. In 2014, extensive testing of various plastics was conducted to evaluate their ability to withstand the harsh weather conditions solar products face over their lifespan. By 2015, a robust prototype was created—strong enough to endure 25 years of outdoor elements.
With the prototype in place and the first customers secured, Solinso BV was officially founded. In October 2015, the first Mystiek project was realized, marking the birth of Solinso as a leader in innovative, sustainable solar roofing.
Taking Baby Steps Toward Commercialization
From "Kitchen Table" to a Production Facility
Solinso’s journey began in a modest 30 m² warehouse—once unused, now the birthplace of Mystiek. In those early days, each solar roof tile was manually assembled, one by one. As the first projects rolled out, word spread quickly. Interest surged, and incoming requests multiplied. It soon became clear: to keep up with the growing demand for this innovative solar solution, Solinso needed to scale up and professionalize its production.

Preparing for Growth
In 2017, with the support of two key investors, Solinso expanded its capabilities by building their first version of the production line. Our new 500m² facility, dedicated to production, storage, and offices, enables us to meet growing demand while continuing to deliver the high-quality Mystiek solar roof tiles our customers expect.
Expansion of Product Portfolio and International Reach
Solinso Mystiek Solar Roof Tiles
In 2019, Solinso expanded its Mystiek product range to cater to a broader audience. Responding to the needs of homeowners who value both sustainability and aesthetics, we introduced two new Mystiek products designed to fit popular clay tiles: Braas Monier Turmalin and Wienerberger Actua10LT.
A major milestone was reached in July 2019, when Solinso proudly celebrated the installation of Mystiek solar roof tiles on 500 rooftops. This achievement marked a significant step forward in our journey—demonstrating both the reliability of our solution and the growing trust of homeowners. As demand continues to grow, we’re expanding our reach, bringing innovative solar roofing to homes beyond the Netherlands.
Expanding business abroad
Germany discovers Solinso
As Mystiek gains traction across Europe, Germany has quickly embraced Solinso’s innovative solar roofing solutions. In 2020, responding to the growing demand, we introduced a new product tailored to the German market—the Mystiek-1493, designed to be fully compatible with Nelskamp G-10 roof tiles. This addition to our product portfolio marks another exciting milestone as sales in Germany continue to grow, bringing sustainable, aesthetically appealing solar solutions to even more homes.
Navigating Challenges
Embracing Leadership During a Period of Rapid Growth
In 2021, Solinso experienced a period of significant growth, expanding operations and market reach at an impressive pace. However, with rapid growth came inevitable changes. Bart Allard, one of Solinso’s founders, chose to step down from his role to focus on his true passion—product development. His departure marked the end of an era, but also paved the way for new opportunities.
Taking the helm during this pivotal moment, Paul de Jong stepped into the role of CEO, leading the company through a challenging period. Faced with material shortages and rising raw material costs, Paul guided Solinso with resilience and strategic foresight. Under his leadership, Solinso not only overcame these hurdles but continued to thrive, finding innovative solutions to maintain the quality and reliability the brand is known for. Thanks to his determination, Solinso successfully adapted to the rapidly changing market, securing its place as a leader in the solar roofing industry.
